Investigational New Drug. The status given by FDA to drugs being tested. The IND application provides the FDA with the data necessary to decide whether the new drug and the proposed clinical trial poses a reasonable risk to the human participants in the study. There are three types of IND: Investigator, Emergency Use, and Treatment and two categories: commercial and research.
