Narrative Types

 

The Narrative Types maintenance document is used to establish and maintain numeric codes and textual description values which are stored in database tables.  This data serves as reference information that is made available for display and selection in various areas of the system, including other e-docs.  Narrative types refer to the types of files attached to a proposal document.  These files are transmitted to the sponsor during Grants.gov S2S submission. For instance, Project Summary is a Narrative Type.  You select Narrative Types while uploading file attachments on the Abstracts and Attachments page of the KC Proposal Development e-doc.

It is recommended that you do not delete existing values, and only modify them if the new description is synonymous with the original term.

Edit Narrative Types Section

The Edit Narrative Types section of the Narrative Types maintenance document is a unique section that allows you to specify and maintain the details associated with the reference table record in fields.

Field	Description
Narrative Type	Required.  Enter the numeric value that identifies this particular kind of narrative.
Description	Required.  This is the short name of the narrative type that is used for written/verbal reference.  Enter as few words as possible to convey the purpose and meaning of the type.  Any character is allowed, such as underscores.  Click the add note  icon to view/edit/paste text in a new browser window, then click the continue button to return to the text entry field in the document.
System Generated	Required.  Enter Y for Yes or N for No.  On Grants.gov submissions, some narrative types are generated based on information entered throughout the proposal, such as Additional Key Persons.
Allow Multiple	Required.  Enter Y for Yes or N for No.  Enter Y to have the system allow more than one attached file for this narrative type.
Narrative Type Group	Required.  The group that this narrative type is a member of (for example, P).  Narrative Groupings appear on the Abstracts and Attachments tab. For instance, Proposal Attachments is a narrative grouping.
